The country world just keeps coming up Chesney.

Kenny Chesney led the way this morning when Reba McEntire announced the nominees for the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards (that’s the ACMs, not to be confused with the CMAs, the CMTs or the ACAs…phew) with a leading nine nominations, including the most prestigious nod of the night, Entertainer of the Year.

Hot on his honky-tonk heels was Jason Aldean, who scored six nominations, followed by Lady Antebellum with five, Brad Paisley with four, and Toby Keith, Eli Young Band, Grace Potter and country darling Taylor Swift with three apiece.

Chesney is certainly a favorite going into the night, having already won Entertainer of the Year four times before. he competes this time around with Aldean, Paisley, Swift, and the show’s cohost Blake Shelton.

Meanwhile, Chesney is also up for Song, Record and Vocal Event of the Year, for “You and Tequila” with Grace Potter, as well as Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for Hemingway’s Whiskey (Chesney actually racked up double nominations in several of the categories, as both artist and producer).

In addition to the Entertainer of the Year nod, Aldean is up against Chesney in the Male Vocalist, Single Record and Vocal Event of the Year for his Kelly Clarkson duet, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” His my Kinda Party is also up for Album of the Year.

Competing alongside him and Chesney in that category are Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Eric Church.

Lady A has the honor of being the most nominated group of the night, for Vocal Group of the Year (which they’ve won the past two years), and Song and Video of the Year for “Just a Kiss.”

Meanwhile, the reigning Entertainer of the Year, Swift, is the most nominated solo female star of the night, and counts Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year nominations—the latter for “Mean”—among her haul.

Other notable nominees include Dierks Bentley, Vince Gill, Carrie Underwood, Aaron Lewis, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson, who each scored two nods apiece. Martina McBride, Sugarland, Sara Evans, Rascal Flatts and Zac Brown Band are also up.

As always, fan voting for the New Artist of the Year (nominations for which won’t be announced until Jan. 30) and Entertainer of the Year begins March 19. McEntire and Shelton host the ceremony, taking place live from Las Vegas April 1.

Does this ad actually work? the car is all but incidental here, but you expect that out of a Super Bowl ad. There’s one awkward selling moment here, with Broderick telling another CRV driver that they have excellent taste in automobiles, which is heavy handed. Regardless, people love that movie, and so they’ll probably love this spot.

Kyra Sedgwick showed off a new tattoo last night on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. “the Closer” actress said that the new tattoo represents each member of her family.

Sedgwick said:

“It’s a family tattoo. It’s all our initials K, K, S and T.”

People Magazine reports that Sedgwick is referring to her husband, Kevin Bacon, their daughter Sosie and their son Travis.

Sedgwick was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series but lost out to Jessica Lange for her work in “American Horror Story.” Sedgwick did walk across the stage, however, as she presented the award for outstanding supporting female actor in a mini-series or movie with her husband Kevin Bacon to Octavia Spencer for her work in The help.

Kyra Sedgwick Shows Off New Tattoo on Red Carpet

(Washington, D.C.) – Local officials and the National Park Police intend to enforce a deadline Monday(12PET) that should bring an end to months of squatting by Occupy D.C. protestors at two locations in the city.

One of those locations, Freedom Plaza, is directly across the street from the J.W. Marriott Hotel where the nation’s governors meet at the end of February each year for the Winter Meeting of the National Governors Association.

At least one protestor was arrested at a second location Sunday afternoon as police were distributing fliers warning demonstrators that they would begin to enforce the ban on overnight camping in both locations Monday. It is not known how the protestors intend to react to the police crackdown, whether they will resist, or comply.

It’s also not known if they will breakdown their camps, but continue to return during the day for regular demonstrations that could distract from the NGA meeting. At last year’s winter meeting union protestors created a small disturbance when they staged a protest in support of public employees in Wisconsin.

Legal recreational designer drugs sold in stores and over the Internet as ‘bath salts’, ‘plant fertilizer’ or ‘plant food’ can inflict harm serious enough to warrant hospitalization, experts said Monday.

Getting high off of bath salts is not illegal, but the American Association of Poison Control Centers says it received 300 calls related to bath salts in 2010 and the number of cases exploded to 6,072 in 2011, according to a statement released last Thursday.

“these substances have the potential to be extremely harmful and, therefore, pose an imminent hazard to the public safety,” said Douglas Snyder, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officer, in a statement in November 2011.

Researchers published two case reports of hospitalized patients treated in emergency departments after using the legal designer drugs on Monday, and they said that after analyzing the toxic effects of the recreational substance they support the recent approval of the House of Representatives of legislation that could potentially set a ban on the synthetic drugs.

The new Synthetic Drug Control Act is designed to limit the distribution and use of synthetic drugs. It was approved by House lawmakers in December 2011, and would temporarily classify these substances as Schedule I drugs for up to three years, according statement released by the journal Annals of Emergency Medicine on Monday.

“The AAPCC data was extremely valuable in documenting recent trends in abuse and was used in our justification to add temporary (emergency) control for several compounds,” Snyder added.

The study led by Josh Mugele of Indiana University School of Medicine presents the first published case of emergency department treatment of a patient who had been exposed to Methoxetamine, a recreational drug known as MXE, M-ket and Mexxy. 

Chemically, Methoxetamine is comparable to ketamine, which is a controlled substance because of increased illicit use.  The side effects of the drug include vomiting, diarrhea, disorientation and the inability to speak.

“our patient had been using a designer drug known as ‘bath salts’ and became so sick that she required hospitalization in the intensive care unit for 12 days,” said Mugele in a statement. “The frightening thing is that she was able to buy these drugs, marketed as a novelty item called Blue Magic bath salts, from behind the counter at a gas station.”

The 41-year-old patient had developed serotonin syndrome after inhaling methylenedioxypyrovalerone, and in the course of her illness she contracted pneumonia and bacteremia, both of which can be fatal, researchers said.

According to a AAPC statement in November, the poison centers first raised the alarm about synthetic marijuana and “bath salts” when they started receiving calls about people who had serious reactions to the substance and they uploaded information to the National Poison Data System which the DEA used to monitor the new drugs to justify emergency band of the chemicals used to make them.

“These designer drugs are growing in popularity and emergency physicians are on the front lines of dealing with the fallout,” said Mugele.

The paper was published on Monday in Annals of Emergency Medicine under the title “Serotonin Syndrome associated with MDPV Use: a Case Report” and “Ketamine-Like Effects After Recreational Use of Methoxetamine”.

“I didn’t really think it was going to come down to triples because there wasn’t a lot of airtime with the jump,” McMorris said after the competiton. “If you did send it deep, it made for a lot of airtime, but it also made for a lot of impact in the landing.”

McMorris landed the first triple cork 1440 at Snowmass in March 2011 and again in may during filming for “The Art of Flight,” but pulling it in competition is another thing altogether. after Torstein Horgmo’s gold medal triple flip in 2011, Winter X Games organizers decided to build a bigger, 80-foot step-up style jump for the competition this year in order to accommodate the level of progression happening in the sport and make way for more triple cork spins. Friday marked the first time the triple cork had been seen in competition.

“I was really pumped to land it,” McMorris said. “It could’ve gone either way, but I’ll take the win and it’s really cool to get my first X gold.”

Horgmo actually went bigger than McMorris in Friday’s final, nabbing a perfect score for his own backside triple cork 1440, but fell short of the top spot in the overall calculations. big Air competitors are judged on the combined total of their two best tricks, and Horgmo fell on several triple cork attempts before landing it in his final run. McMorris’ frontside double cork mute 1080 in his first run helped him hold the overall lead. Sebastien Toutant claimed the bronze, thanks in part to his double cork Cab 1260.

“The jump was big enough. I think we were just missing a little more lift on the takeoff — a little pop,” said Horgmo, the first to attempt a triple in Friday’s final. “It was kind of a floater and it was so cold outside, but it was a lot better than last year’s jump. I had to go for it. It’s the X Games. It’s just something you gotta do.”

Friday was a huge day for McMorris, who also finished first in the elimination round of Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle and is a favorite to win the Slopestyle finals Saturday. this is his second year at Winter X Games. in 2011 he won silver in Slopestyle as a rookie and just missed the big Air podium in fourth place. so far, this is shaping up to be his season; he also won the O’Neill Evolution big Air in Davos, Switzerland, (a 6Star event on the TTR World Tour) in February and is the current leader in the Burton Global Open series after winning the slopestyle event at the Burton New Zealand Open in August.

“Today was heavy,” McMorris said after the late-night competition concluded Friday. “I’m just so happy with how Slopestyle semis went, and now this. And I’ve got a big day tomorrow.”

First triple corks landed in WX Big Air

Janikowski, the Raiders all-time franchise leading scorer, used the shootout as an opportunity to add yet another record to his kicking résumé. After tying the NFL record with a 63-yard field goal in week one against the Broncos, Janikowski finished the 2011 NFL season going 8/8 in the Pro Bowl on extra points, earning the record for most extra points made in a game in Pro Bowl history. San Francisco 49er’s kicker David Akers previously set the record with seven made extra points in the 2010 Pro Bowl.

Janikowski also made his sole field goal attempt from 37 yards out and had five touchbacks, including one that drew “oohs” from the crowd of 48,423 as the kickoff soared over the end zone with plenty of distance to make it through the uprights.

Punter Shane Lechler appeared in his seventh Pro Bowl but did not get the opportunity to show off his strong leg as the AFC chose to go for it on three of their fourth downs. despite not being able to punt the ball, Lechler was able to be a part of Janikowski’s record-setting performance as his holder, just as he is on the Raiders.

Another familiar piece on the AFC special teams was Raiders long snapper Jon Condo who was making his second Pro Bowl appearance. In addition to serving as the AFC long snapper, Condo also saw time on the field in both kickoff returns and kickoff coverage.

On two occasions, the NFC went to their bag of trickery and called an onside kick to catch the AFC off guard. After the first one was recovered with ease by the NFC, the AFC was ready for it the second time but Condo failed to fall on the ball and the NFC recovered the ball.

Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour started the game for his seventh Pro Bowl but finished with only one sack in a game that saw mostly arm tackles and over 1,100 yards of total offense.

Janikowski wasn’t the only one on the field breaking Pro Bowl records. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald tied the Pro Bowl record for most career Pro Bowl touchdowns when he hauled in his second touchdown of the day in the first quarter to give the NFC a 14-0 lead early. The touchdown reception marked his sixth career Pro Bowl touchdown, tying fellow Pro Bowler and Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall also set his own record en route to being named the 2012 Pro Bowl MVP. Marshall hauled in six receptions for 176 yards and a Pro Bowl record four touchdown receptions. The 176 receiving yards also marks the second most in Pro Bowl history.
